Uptime Institute's Advanced Seminars are intensive two-day and in-person courses focusing on in-depth reviews on topics key to the professional growth and development of industry professionals. Seminars are administered by senior Uptime Institute staff and allow for direct engagement with industry peers. 


These seminars are a great opportunity to learn from industry leaders and technology experts who will provide you with best practices, evaluation criteria and helpful tools to develop a world-class management and operations program for your critical facility. Each seminar focuses on the analysis of specialized areas like cooling technologies, ancillary mechanical systems, critical facility management, portfolio governance, and more. 

Advanced courses may be taken by any individual, with or without previous attendance at any other course.

Earn Professional and/or Expert Designations for your ATD, ATS or AOS Program Accreditations

Completing the base level courseware for ATD, ATS, and AOS programs are just the start of your journey. By joining additional courseware and submitting written evidence of your mastery of the material, you can earn Professional and/or Expert credentials.

These advanced credentials identify you as a master of the imparted concepts and increase your business value to your current employer, future employers, and the data center community at large. Accredited, Professional and Expert graduates are encouraged to continuously add new areas of personal understanding by completing additional advanced courseware which covers various advanced topics associated with modern data center design, operations and management.

Advanced Mechanical and Tiers

Course Syllabus

Uptime Institute Advanced Mechanical and Tiers provides advanced instruction on unique and/or complex mechanical design challenges and Tier solutions, including technical aspects of capacity component selection, load consideration, configuration and redundancy, controls, and power sources based on Tier objective. Instruction will cover typical cooling shortfalls submitted for Tier Certification, as well as an overview of Tier Certification expectations.

Duration: This six-module seminar is delivered remotely with live Uptime Institute instructors across two days. Download the Syllabus.

Goals: 

  • Expanding the application of mechanical solutions within each Tier
  • Creating and implementing unique and challenging applications of various cooling technologies
  • Optimizing mechanical design to effectively meet Tier requirements and lay the grounds for effective data center operation

Advanced Principles in Critical Facility Management

Course Syllabus

Uptime Institute Advanced Principles in Critical Facility Management provides instruction to critical facility operations and management professionals covering site- and portfolio-level governance and management concepts, and the application of those concepts in real-life situations. The course is designed for individuals who work within a traditional data center or other critical facility environment as well as managers and executives who are responsible for a “mixed” IT environment including one or more traditional enterprise data centers, colocation facilities, or cloud service contracts.

Uptime Institute Advanced Principles in Critical Facility Management provides instruction to critical facility operations and management professionals covering site- and portfolio-level governance and management concepts, and the application Credits:  CPD/PDH = 6.5 hrs (0.6 CEU)

Goals: 

  • Expanding the concept of Management and Operations beyond individual sites to encompass a holistic approach to a portfolio of critical facilities
  • Determining and effective IT environment management structure and strategy and creating an action plan to implement that strategy
  • Creating and implementing management and operations plans at the portfolio level to meet IT (and overall business) availability requirements
  • Optimizing training, change management, and capacity management programs for increasingly complex environments

Uptime Institute Advanced Electrical and Tiers provides advanced instruction on unique and/or complex electrical design challenges and Tier solutions, including technical aspects of capacity component selection, load consideration, configuration and redundancy, controls, and power sources based on Tier objective. Instruction will cover typical design shortfalls submitted for Tier Certification, as well as an overview of phasing and multi-tiers.

Advanced Practices in Data Center Cost Management

Course Syllabus

Uptime Institute Advanced Practices in Data Center Cost Management (the path to Efficient IT, implementing cost as the driver) provides instruction to data center and IT operators who are responsible for IT infrastructure. The objective of the seminar focuses on advanced knowledge necessary to implement a cost-based approach towards driving efficient IT and continuous improvement. The course is designed for individuals who work within a traditional data center or other critical facility environments as well as managers and executives who are responsible for IT infrastructure.
